Less is more

Once in a while, I can't help but bring an overwhelming amount of images from a weekend. Yes, I was breathing and slowing down, but it was all just too vast and I let myself get happily carried away in the heat of the tropical Christmas wonderland that was Bella’s and Ben’s Palm Beach wedding last December.

“Less is more” has always been at the core of my approach to delivering a wedding. The process of selection is just as important as shooting itself. I usually spend a great deal of time with the photographs, not wanting to miss the intimate, quiet ones, uncovering all the layers, all the storylines. I am absolutely obsessed with editing things down until I get to the very essence and find a unique rhythm through sequencing in a gallery or a book. It really matters how it all goes together.

With this wedding, however, I tried something different. I looked for the images that felt like they could be made into large fine-art prints and framed for the walls. The decisions proved to be surprisingly easy. It was also deeply gratifying to see photographs come to life on such a scale. The most incredible part though was sitting down with Bella and Ben as they were pulling the prints out one by one, bursting into vivid emotional stories around each photograph.  I found myself experiencing the meaning of their wedding in a whole new light.
